South East Costa Rica 20 days – from $1024 pp

How does this sound: unspoiled beaches, surrounded by palm trees, relaxing in your hammock. You can hike through the jungle or visit an indigenous village with Costa Rican Indians. In the South of Costa Rica it’s hot and tropical with an overwhelmingly strong presence of nature. The Pacific Ocean is always close by to cool off, snorkel or scuba dive and you will visit the Caribbean site as well. With this tour you will experience a new adventure every day! 

Day-by-day overview

Day 1 – Dos Palmas Country Inn in La Garita or Hotel Bougainvillea in Heredia
After your arrival at the international airport of Juan Santamaría in Alajuela, close to Costa Rica’s capital San José, we will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel of choice. It’s only a 15 minute drive and you will have time to relax and adjust to the tropical climate. Your rental car will be waiting for you at the hotel.

Day 2 and 3 – Mar de Luz or Playa Bejuco (make your choice) in the Jacó area
Today you will drive to Jacó where you can just relax at the beach or go surfing. A visit to  Manuel Antonio Park and a boat tour on a crocodile river are examples of the tours available to you. Parrots can be found in the woods of Carara park.
Mar de Luz is located in the bustling town of Jacó. It’s a cozy family hotel with great facilities. 
If you’re in for a more luxury stay, the hotel Playa a good choice. Walking distance to the beach and in a tranquil setting, it is located at a 25 minute drive from Jacó.

Day 4, 5 and 6- Hotel El Mono Feliz in Ojochal
In the green South of Costa Rica you will find the cozy cabin’s of El Mono Feliz (the happy monkey). There are many (day-) trips available in this area: boating tour through the biggest mangrove forest in Central America, diving with the dolphins or spotting whales. It’s also possible to book a tour to Caño island where you can snorkel in pristine waters. Or how about a visit to an indigenous village, horseback riding on the unspoiled and quiet beaches or dinner at one of the restaurants of Ojochal? 

Day 7 and 8  Rancho Burica in Punta Banco
Rancho Burica, surrounded by lush tropical garden, invites you to enjoy this surfers paradise. If you enjoy peace and quiet, beach and ocean, you will feel right at home here. Dinner in the evening at one big round cozy table, shared with the other guests. Unforgettable sunsets are waiting for you! 

Day 9, 10 and 11  Casa Botania  in San Vito
A relaxed setting in the middle of a natural hot spring area. You can visit the biggest botanical garden of Central America ‘Wilson Botanical Gardens’ with the owner of Casa Botania, Pepe, as a guide. He is a birder and knows all about the local bird population. At the end of the day you can enjoy a meal in the Costa Rican-Belgium restaurant of Casa Botania, which is located in the deep south of Costa Rica, close to the Panama border. 

Day 12 and 13- Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge in San Gerardo de Dota
Dantica Lodge is located in the cloud forests of San Gerardo de Dota where you can spot the famous but elusive quetzal, if you’re lucky. You can visit the natural parks Los Quetzales and Tapanti or go for a walk (with or without a guide) through the private natural reserve of Dantica which covers 9 hectares. 

Day 14 and 15  – Guayabo Smokey Volcano Lodge in Turrialba
Today you are driving to the Turrialba area. Mountains and unspoiled natural forests surround the spectacular Guayabo Lodge. Here you can enjoy walking, in example to the Turrialba volcano. Visit one of the botanical gardens and check out the Guayabo Monument. At Ortuño farm they will show you how coffee, sugarcane and macadamia nuts are traditionally processed and produced. Don’t miss the daily fruit market of Cartago! 

Day 16, 17 and 18 - Tree House Lodge or El Arbol (make your choice) close to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
The Tree House Lodge on the Caribbean Sea will offer you a room in the beautiful Garden house. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable, and they all have a gorgeous view of the jungle. Some of your choices are: relax, visit national park Cahuita, check out iguanas and  more.
At El Arbol you will stay in a luxurious jungle house with your own jacuzzi, surrounded by tropical forest where you will wake up with the monkeys. The beach and Caribbean sea are close by and in the evening you can enjoy the Caribbean atmosphere and restaurants of this area. 

Day 19 – Dos Palmas Country Inn in La Garita or Hotel Bougainvillea in Heredia (your choice)
The last night you will spend at Dos Palmas or Bougainvillea again. On the porch, enjoying a cool drink at the swimming pool, you can look back on a wonderful vacation. You will also return you rental car here.

Departure from San José, we will take you to the airport.

Of course each hotel has a number of (day-) trips for you. We have only made a small selection in the above hotel descriptions. Pricing is based on two persons traveling together. If you’re with more people, want to extend or shorten this trip, combine the hotels differently or add hotels? It’s all possible.
